Every student is different and it is important to get to know the student to understand how they communicate their wants and needs. I expect students to learn about me as I learn about them, and for us to collaborate on classroom rules. I expect us to navigate the learning process with mutual respect, even though that can be challenging. I want them to know that I will be there to support them to meet their goals. I like to support students by individualizing the instruction and providing instruction in various modalities such as visual, auditory, and kinesthetic.
The goal in the classroom is to set up the students for success. Setting out clear expectations allow for the students to know what they need to do. I want the student to feel motivated to learn in a positive learning environment. I will make modifications as needed so my students can excel. Positive reinforcement, breaks, and repeated practice are some of the techniques that I will use in the classroom.
I look forward to having a collaborative relationship with parents. I want parents to know what their child is learning in the classroom and the techniques used to help them excel. I would like to provide support to parents as needed. With open communication, I can also draw on parents’ understandings of their child and learning.
