“Learning is non-negotiable,” said Governor Newsom. “The virus will be with us for a year or more, and school districts must provide meaningful instruction in the midst of this pandemic. In California, health data will determine when a school can be physically open – and when it must close – but learning should never stop. Students, staff, and parents all prefer in-classroom instruction, but only if it can be done safely.”
Why Attendance Expectations Are Increasing From The Spring
New Ed Code 43501 has provided guidance and expectations that were not present in the spring including:
Mandate on instructional minutes
Need to have “live” daily interactions with teacher and peers
Daily attendance needs to be taken
Grades will be given
Our New Daily Distance Learning Expectations
Attendance has to be taken daily both synchronously and asynchronously
Students will need to attend the live class meetings and class live lessons
Students will need to complete all synchronous and asynchronous assignments daily
This means students will need to follow the daily schedule and log in at the designated times
Attendance has to be turned into principal weekly
District must create a reengagement plan for any students not attending or completing 60% of each week
