TK-7 Summer School

Summer School: June 21-July 22, 2022

Summer School programming has now begun; we are no long adding to enrollment for intervention, enrichment, or extended enrichment.

Dates: June 21-July 22, Monday-Thursday except for the last day which will be on Friday, July 22nd.
Times: 8:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.; Academic intervention with a reading and math focus
             12:00-2:30 p.m.; Enrichment, below are descriptions of all offerings
             2:30-5:00 p.m.; Extended enrichment; art camp, swimming, and fun hands on activities

Additional Information:
  • Closed: 6/20, 7/4
  • ​The last day of programming is 7/22, the only Friday that we will operate programming
  • No uniforms required
  • Drop Off: Students will be dropped off at the front entrance on 53rd St.; front playground supervision will begin at 8:00 a.m.
  • Lunch and snack will be provided; students are welcome to bring their own lunch/snacks 
  • Pick Up: Students will be picked up at the front entrance on 53rd St.
  • Late pick ups will result in dismissal from the program so please be on time
  • For students participating in extended day enrichment, they will participate in Kala Art Camp (M/W) and swimming and hands on activities (T/TH); swimming permission slip must me complete.
  • Respectful, Responsible, and Safe behavior is the expectation; failure to do so will result in dismissal from the program.

We have worked with various Bay Area organizations to provide the following enrichment offerings:
Capoeira: Students will participate in a progression of movements, songs and instruments of Capoeira-- an Angolan martial art--along with deeper study of history, language & music along with building their own instruments.
Cal Shakes Theatre: Students will develop and improve their performative skills by studying in such areas as Acting, Voice, Movement, Text Analysis and more, all while rehearsing one of Shakespeare’s most beloved plays for a cumulative performance on stage!
Improv: Ms. Maya will use her theatre background to take everyday objects and make it fun as students use them as prompts and then learn to create and express without the support of physical objects.
Kala Art Summer Camp: 
Students will participate in weekly themed cool, fun, and engaging hands-on art projects and activities, and dive into the creative process. Elementary workshops will include sculptural play, collaborative painting, collage, and puppetry/textiles and storytelling Middle school workshops will include sculpture/found art, drawing and painting expressions, and photo/zines and storytelling.
Knitting: Ms. Maya will teach basic knitting principals as students create weekly projects that range in difficulty as their skills improve.
Spoken Word Poetry: Students will participate in SPARC poetry lessons which will involve call and response, cheers and chants, check in questions, free writes, improv theater and poetry games, and public speaking/performance education.
Sports Rotation Camp: Students will participate in action packed week long camps including basketball, flag football, soccer, volleyball, and Camp Olympics.
Robotics w/Mr. Reynoso: Students will have the opportunity to explore robotics programming with age appropriate robots (difficulty and model differs depending on the grade level).
We Lead Camp: Kindergarten students will participate in age appropriate movement, activities, and more in a twice weekly camp format.
